Main Attractions Covered During Kailash Mansarovar Yatra

Know more about your Kailash Yatra

Revered as the abode of Lord Shiva, Mount Kailash is one of the holiest peaks in the world, untouched by climbers and worshipped by Hindus, Buddhists, Jains, and Bon followers. The sight of its snow-clad pyramid-shaped peak is believed to cleanse sins of lifetimes and bless devotees with spiritual awakening. Pilgrims perform the sacred Kailash Parikrama (circumambulation) of 52 km, an act of ultimate devotion and penance.

The holiest freshwater lake in the world, Lake Mansarovar is believed to have been created from the mind of Lord Brahma. Taking a dip in its crystal-clear waters or performing rituals along its banks is said to wash away sins and open the door to salvation. Many Yatris also collect the sacred Mansarovar Jal, which is used for puja at their homes for years to come.

Situated near Lake Mansarovar, Rakshas Tal is associated with Ravana, who is believed to have meditated here to attain powers from Lord Shiva. Unlike the divine Mansarovar, Rakshas Tal is considered inauspicious, symbolizing the duality of creation. The contrasting blue of Mansarovar and dark waters of Rakshas Tal present a unique spiritual balance of good and evil.

Located near Darchen, Yam Dwar is the starting point of the Kailash Parikrama. Known as the “Gateway of the Lord of Death”, this site holds deep spiritual meaning. Devotees believe that stepping through Yam Dwar symbolizes leaving behind worldly attachments and ego before embarking on the divine journey to Mount Kailash.

Crossing Dolma La is one of the most significant and challenging parts of the Yatra. At this sacred pass, pilgrims leave behind clothes, ornaments, or symbolic items as an act of surrendering ego, pride, and past sins. The pass also provides a breathtaking view of Gauri Kund and the majestic Himalayan range.

A sacred lake also known as Lake of Compassion nestled near Dolma La Pass, Gauri Kund is a serene lake associated with Goddess Parvati (Gauri), who is said to have created it while performing penance. Bathing or touching the water here is considered extremely auspicious, though the high-altitude trek makes access challenging. Its turquoise water reflects both beauty and divine feminine energy.

Asthapad, near Darchen, is believed to be the site where Rishabhdev, the first Jain Tirthankara, attained nirvana. The location offers one of the most stunning panoramic views of Mount Kailash, making it both a religious and visual highlight of the Yatra.

Located at the north face of Mount Kailash, offering breathtaking views and a spiritual atmosphere during the first night of parikrama.

The final stop of the Kailash Parikrama, famous for the cave where Milarepa meditated and performed miracles.

A Tibetan town near the Nepal border, serving as the acclimatization point for yatris before entering Mansarovar.

We were a group of 16 yatris, and the arrangements were flawless. The guides were extremely polite, helpful, and experienced. The itinerary gave us enough time for acclimatization, which made the Yatra smooth. The team’s knowledge, medical support, and arrangements at high altitude were outstanding. The subsidy support were also a great help. Har Har Mahadev!
